Ecommerce SEO pricing

How ecommerce SEO pricing works, and what to pay for first.

Ecommerce SEO is priced by the work your store needs, so the honest answer depends on your catalog, your platform, your markets and how much is already broken. With me, the first read costs nothing, a full audit starts at $900, and any monthly plan is priced from what that audit finds.

Cost drivers

What drives the cost of ecommerce SEO?

Six things decide most of the price. Two stores with the same revenue can need very different amounts of work, which is why a fixed package rarely fits.

DriverCosts less whenCosts more when
Catalog size and structureA few clear collections, products with distinct namesThousands of products, overlapping collections, many near-identical items
Platform and themeA standard theme that prints titles, descriptions and links where you expectA custom theme, page builders or apps that change headings, links or canonical tags
Markets and languagesOne country, one languageSeveral markets or languages, each needing its own URLs, hreflang and copy
Technical debtNo recent migration, redesign or URL changeA replatform, blog rename or redesign left redirects, 404s or hidden pages behind
Content neededCollections and products already answer what buyers searchBuying guides, comparisons and new collection copy have to be written
Who ships the changesYour developer or agency implements from written requirementsThe SEO consultant also implements templates, redirects and content

How do ecommerce SEO consultants and agencies charge?

You'll meet four ways of charging. None is wrong. Each fits a different stage, and mixing them up is how stores end up paying monthly for work that should have been a one-time fix.

One-time audit

A fixed price for a diagnosis with a ranked list of fixes. Best first purchase, because it tells you what the monthly work should be before you commit to any.

Project or sprint

A fixed scope with an end date, such as a migration, a collection rebuild or a redirect cleanup. Good when the audit finds one big job.

Monthly plan

Ongoing implementation, content and measurement. Fits when the audit shows months of work that has to be paced and checked.

Hourly

Pay for time. Useful for small, defined jobs or advice to your team, harder to budget for anything open-ended.

My pricing

What you pay me, and when.

Each step tells you whether the next one is worth paying for. You never pay for monthly work before you've seen the findings.

1

Sales Leak Report

I review your public store and email where product and collection pages lose search buyers.

You pay nothing. You receive a written report within 24 hours.

2

Full SEO audit

With Search Console access, I check revenue pages, templates and URL patterns and rank the fixes by business impact.

You pay from $900, once. You receive a prioritized fix map you can use with anyone.

3

Monthly plan

Implementation, content and measurement, scoped from the audit. The scope is written down before you agree.

You pay a monthly fee priced from the audit. You receive shipped changes and a monthly before and after.

Why no monthly number here? Because it would be a guess. The audit shows how much work your store needs, and the plan is priced from that, so you don't pay for a package built for someone else's store.

Is it worth it

How do you know if ecommerce SEO will pay for itself?

Work it out from your margin, not your revenue. Covering the SEO fee is one checkpoint. Assess the full programme using incremental profit after its other costs too.

The break-even line

To estimate the revenue needed to cover the SEO fee alone, divide that fee by your gross margin. Include implementation, content and other incremental costs separately when you assess the whole programme. At a 40% margin, every 1 of fee needs 2.50 of extra organic revenue.

Where the money usually is

Start with demand you already have. One supplement store I reviewed had 16.8 million impressions over 16 months at a 0.44% click-through rate. High-impression, low-click pages are worth investigating, but the query mix and search results determine whether they offer a practical opportunity.

Give it the right window

After hidden or broken pages are fixed, search visibility may change within weeks, but timing varies. New pages also need to be crawled and indexed, and neither timeline promises extra sales or payback. Judge each change against a dated before and after, not a single month.

Red flags

What to watch for in cheap ecommerce SEO packages.

A low price isn't the problem. A price that has nothing to do with your store is.

Walk away if you see

  • Guaranteed rankings or a guaranteed number of first-page keywords.
  • A fixed count of links or articles every month, whatever the store needs.
  • No question about your margin, your best sellers or what changed recently.
  • Reports full of keyword counts and nothing about your collections or products.

A good proposal shows

  • Which pages they'd change first, and why those pages.
  • What they need from you, such as access, approvals or a developer's time.
  • How they'll measure it, with a before and after you can check yourself.
  • What's out of scope.
Questions

Questions about ecommerce SEO pricing.

How much does ecommerce SEO cost?

It depends on your catalog, platform, markets, technical debt, content needs and who ships the changes. With me, the Sales Leak Report costs nothing, a full audit starts at $900, and monthly work is priced from what the audit finds.

How much does Shopify SEO cost?

The same drivers apply. Shopify adds a few cost items of its own, such as themes that build pages from custom fields, apps that change canonical tags, and Markets for other countries. The audit tells you which ones apply to your store.

Is a one-time audit enough?

Sometimes. If the audit finds a few clear fixes and your developer can ship them, you may not need monthly work. The fix map is yours to use with anyone.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. The report and the audit are one-time. A monthly plan is agreed on a written scope after the audit.
